Consumer Program Policies
Version 1.1 · Last updated August 20, 2026
These policies apply to Bell Curves consumer programs, including Live Online Courses, Self-Paced Online Courses, and 1:1 Tutoring.
Quick Summary
- Live Online Courses: Try your first class. If it isn't a good fit, withdraw before the second class begins for an eligible refund. After the second class starts, tuition is non-refundable.
- Registration fee: Live Online Courses and 1:1 Tutoring include a $75 non-refundable registration fee.
- Materials: Books and other materials already provided or shipped are non-refundable.
- Self-Paced Courses: You have 9 months of access for SHSAT courses and 6 months of access for all other Self-Paced courses. You have 5 days after purchase to cancel, provided you have accessed or completed less than 25% of the course content.
- Want more support? Move from Self-Paced to a Live Online Course for 10% off, or apply what you paid for Self-Paced toward an eligible 10- or 15-hour 1:1 Tutoring package.
- Missed a Live Online class? We don't refund or prorate missed classes. Use available recordings and course materials to catch up.
- Need another class time? You can request one free cohort change before your second class, subject to availability.
- 1:1 Tutoring: Give us at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. With 8–24 hours' notice, the scheduled time is used unless the tutor and family agree to adjust it. With less than 8 hours' notice, or for a missed session without notice, the scheduled time is used and cannot be rescheduled.
- Leaving a tutoring package early? Eligible unused hours may be refundable, but completed hours are recalculated at the regular hourly rate before the refund is determined.
- If Bell Curves cancels: We'll provide a reasonable makeup, replacement, or transfer. If we cancel a program and can't provide a reasonable alternative, we'll refund the eligible unused tuition.
The full policies below control if there is any difference between this summary and the detailed terms.
1. Program Formats
1.1 Live Online Courses are instructor-led courses delivered online on a scheduled class calendar.
1.2 Self-Paced Online Courses provide online course content that students work through on their own schedule during the applicable access period.
1.3 1:1 Tutoring consists of individually scheduled tutoring sessions delivered online, virtually, or in another format specifically included in the student's tutoring package.
1.4 Different cancellation, refund, and attendance rules apply to each format.
2. Registration Fees and Materials
2.1 Live Online Courses and 1:1 Tutoring packages include a $75 registration fee. Registration fees are non-refundable.
2.2 Self-Paced Online Courses do not have a separate registration fee.
2.3 Physical and digital materials, books, shipping, third-party resources, and other materials that have already been provided, shipped, downloaded, or activated are non-refundable.
2.4 When a refund or credit requires determining the value of materials or individual program components, Bell Curves uses their regular, undiscounted prices.
3. Discounts and Promotional Pricing
3.1 Discounts and promotional pricing apply only to the purchase for which they were offered.
3.2 When a student withdraws from part of a discounted package or otherwise becomes eligible for a partial refund, Bell Curves may first recalculate the services and materials already received using their regular, undiscounted prices.
3.3 Any remaining eligible balance is then used to calculate the refund.
4. Live Online Course Refunds and Withdrawals
4.1 Before the First Class
A student who withdraws before the first scheduled class is eligible for a refund of tuition paid, less:
- the $75 registration fee; and
- any non-refundable materials or resources already provided.
4.2 After the First Class
Students may attend the first scheduled class to determine whether the course is a good fit.
To remain eligible for a refund, the withdrawal request must be received before the second scheduled class begins.
The refund will be calculated after deducting:
- the $75 registration fee;
- non-refundable materials and resources; and
- the regular, undiscounted value of instruction already received.
4.3 Beginning With the Second Class
Once the second scheduled class begins, Live Online Course tuition is non-refundable.
Leaving the course, stopping attendance, or failing to participate does not cancel the student's enrollment or create a refund.
5. Missed Live Online Classes
5.1 Bell Curves does not provide refunds, tuition reductions, or prorated credits for classes missed by a student.
5.2 When recordings, class materials, assignments, or other resources are available as part of the course, students may use them to catch up on missed work.
5.3 Individual makeup instruction is not guaranteed for a missed group class.
6. Changing Live Online Course Cohorts
6.1 Students may request one cohort change without charge before the second scheduled class, subject to space being available in another appropriate cohort.
6.2 Cohort changes requested after that point are at Bell Curves' discretion and subject to availability. An administrative fee may apply.
6.3 Changing cohorts does not restart or extend the original refund period.
7. Self-Paced Online Course Access
7.1 Self-Paced Online Course access begins on the applicable enrollment or activation date.
7.2 Access periods are:
- SHSAT Self-Paced Courses: 9 months
- All other Self-Paced Online Courses: 6 months
7.3 Access ends at the conclusion of the applicable period unless Bell Curves expressly provides an extension.
7.4 Unused course access has no cash value and is not refundable after the applicable cancellation period.
8. Self-Paced Online Course Refunds
8.1 A Self-Paced Online Course may be cancelled within five days of purchase, provided the student has accessed or completed less than 25% of the course content.
8.2 Any separately provided non-refundable materials, books, third-party resources, or similar items will be deducted from the refund.
8.3 After five days, Self-Paced Online Course purchases are non-refundable.
9. Moving From Self-Paced to a Live Online Course
9.1 A student enrolled in a Self-Paced Online Course may transition to a Live Online Course and receive 10% off the regular price of the Live Online Course.
9.2 This is a program transition rather than a refund of the Self-Paced Online Course.
9.3 The Self-Paced purchase does not have separate cash value once applied or used as part of a transition.
10. Moving From Self-Paced to 1:1 Tutoring
10.1 A student enrolled in a Self-Paced Online Course may transition to an eligible 10-hour or 15-hour 1:1 Tutoring package.
10.2 The amount paid for the Self-Paced Online Course will be credited toward the tutoring package.
10.3 The student pays the regular price of the selected tutoring package, less the amount paid for the Self-Paced Online Course.
10.4 This credit is available as a program transition and is not redeemable for cash.
11. 1:1 Tutoring Cancellations and Rescheduling
11.1 Tutoring sessions may be cancelled or rescheduled without penalty when Bell Curves receives at least 24 hours' notice before the scheduled session.
11.2 A cancellation or rescheduling request made with 8–24 hours' notice uses the scheduled tutoring time unless the tutor and family agree to adjust the session time.
11.3 A cancellation or rescheduling request made with less than 8 hours' notice uses the scheduled tutoring time and cannot be rescheduled.
11.4 A missed session without notice uses the scheduled tutoring time and cannot be rescheduled.
11.5 In some cases, tutors may be able to accommodate short-notice scheduling changes. Any such adjustment is at the tutor's discretion and subject to availability.
12. Withdrawing From a 1:1 Tutoring Package
12.1 A student may request a refund for eligible unused tutoring hours before the package expires.
12.2 Before calculating the refund:
- tutoring hours already used are repriced at Bell Curves' regular, undiscounted hourly rate;
- the $75 registration fee is deducted;
- non-refundable materials or resources are deducted at their regular, undiscounted price; and
- any remaining eligible balance is refunded.
12.3 Unused tutoring hours do not automatically retain the discounted hourly rate associated with a larger package.
13. Tutoring Package Expiration
13.1 Tutoring hours are valid for 12 months from the package purchase date.
13.2 Unused tutoring hours expire at the end of the 12-month validity period and have no cash value and are not refundable unless otherwise required by law.
14. Bell Curves Cancellations and Schedule Changes
14.1 If Bell Curves cancels a class or tutoring session, Bell Curves will provide a reasonable replacement, which may include:
- a rescheduled session;
- a makeup class;
- replacement access;
- another instructor; or
- another substantially equivalent solution.
14.2 If Bell Curves cancels an entire program and cannot provide a reasonable replacement or transfer option, Bell Curves will refund the unused portion of eligible tuition.
15. Instructor Changes
15.1 Bell Curves may substitute instructors when necessary.
15.2 An instructor change does not by itself create a right to a refund when Bell Curves continues to provide substantially the same course or tutoring service.
16. Technology and Internet Problems
16.1 Bell Curves will make reasonable efforts to address material service interruptions caused by Bell Curves or its systems.
16.2 Depending on the circumstances, the remedy may include replacement access, a rescheduled session, a makeup opportunity, or another reasonable solution.
16.3 Problems involving a student's internet connection, computer, device, software, local network, or other personal technology do not create a right to a refund or individual makeup session.
17. Student Conduct
17.1 Students are expected to participate in a manner that allows instructors and other students to learn and work effectively.
17.2 Bell Curves may remove a student from a program for serious or repeated disruptive, abusive, threatening, inappropriate, dishonest, or unsafe conduct.
17.3 Where appropriate, Bell Curves may provide a warning and an opportunity to correct the behavior before removal.
17.4 Removal for conduct does not create a right to a refund.
18. How to Request a Refund, Withdrawal, Cohort Change, or Cancellation
18.1 Requests must be submitted through the Bell Curves email address, form, account system, or other designated channel provided for the program.
18.2 A request is considered received when it reaches Bell Curves through that designated channel.
18.3 Verbal notice to an instructor does not by itself constitute a formal withdrawal, refund request, cohort change, or tutoring cancellation.
19. Refund Processing
19.1 Approved refunds will normally be returned to the original payment method.
19.2 Processing times may vary depending on the payment provider or financial institution.
19.3 Where applicable, refunds and credits are calculated according to the pricing and deduction rules stated in this policy.
20. Exceptions and Applicable Law
20.1 Bell Curves may make reasonable exceptions to these policies when circumstances warrant.
20.2 Nothing in these policies limits any rights a customer may have under applicable law.
20.3 If applicable law provides greater rights than these policies, the applicable legal requirements control.
