Should I take the SAT or the ACT?

The right test is the one that fits how you actually work, not a guess about which one looks better. Most colleges accept both the SAT and the ACT equally, so the decision comes down to fit. The SAT gives you more time per question and adapts module by module, and tends to favor students strong in algebra, evidence-based reading, and deliberate problem-solving. The ACT moves faster and stays fixed-form, and tends to favor students comfortable with geometry, longer reading passages, and quick pacing. Most students have a real preference once they've tried both under timed conditions.

What's a good SAT score?

There's no single number. A good SAT score depends on where you want to apply, since a score that's competitive for one school can fall short at another. The SAT is scored from 400 to 1600, split evenly between Reading & Writing and Math. When should I start SAT prep?

As early as your schedule allows. Bell Curves' Edge program is built for a 12 to 16 week runway and produces the most significant score movement. Intensive is built for students whose test date is coming up soon. The earlier you start, the more the score can move, but a focused plan on a shorter timeline still works if that's where you are.

How many times should I take the SAT?

Most students take the official SAT two to three times: an initial attempt to establish a baseline, a second after a full prep cycle, and, for some students, a third to close a specific, known gap. That's separate from practice testing. We recommend at least five full-length practice tests using Bluebook, the College Board's own official testing app, since they're free and the closest simulation of the real digital, adaptive test. Does SAT prep actually improve scores?
